Real Hair Wigs

Synthetic Wigs Vs Human Hair Wig

What Is the Difference Between Synthetic and Human Real Hair Wigs?

real hair wigs

As you might now, buying a wig can seem like a very complicated and confusing thing, especially if you are a first-time buyer. There are so many different types to choose from, an array of customization options, and new wig terms to get familiar with.

That can be quite overwhelming if you don’t have any experience with wearing wigs. Regardless of whether you need a hairpiece due to hair loss or simply want to transform your current look, it is crucial to purchase the right one. From choosing a wig type, making sure it will fit, to selecting colors, density, and finally taking care of your wig – all of these need to be done right in order to have the perfect wig.

To make this process easier for our dear customers, we have decided to compile an extensive list of frequently asked wig questions. We have covered pretty much everything; from wig types, shopping tips, and questions about wig care, but if you have additional questions, do not hesitate to contact us!

For all the wig options, please check our wig section.

Why do people wear wigs?

There are a couple of different reasons why one might decide to start wearing a wig. The first is medical issues that result in partial or full hair loss. That can happen due to chemotherapy, alopecia, trichotillomania, hypothyroidism, anemia, telogen effluvium, autoimmune diseases, stress, hormones, protein deficiency etc.

If you notice that your hair is getting thinner or falling out, you should definitely go see a doctor to determine what is causing it and get hairpiece appropriate treatment. During the treatment, you might want to opt for wearing a hairpiece until your natural strands recover fully. Losing hair is very unfortunate and can be hard on women and men who often lose their confidence along with their precious locks.

That’s why wearing a hairpiece, even temporarily, can make a huge difference. Another reason why people might want to buy a wig is to simply change their look. A hairpiece allows you to completely transform your hairstyle instantly, without cutting or dying your natural strands. Although you can achieve a similar thing with extensions, a wig doesn’t require you to have long hair; you can have extremely short locks and still get that long style.

– How do human wigs work?

During the last couple of years, there was a big progress in the wig industry. Modern ones look completely real and are available to many different customers. The main thing about them is that it doesn’t matter how much natural strands you have or what their length is, literally everyone can wear a wig if they choose to.

Every hairpiece has a cap with hair sewn onto it either by a machine or by hand. That way, you get a full head of hair of your preference. Depending on the wig type, there can also be lace parts on the cap. You simply need to attach the wig and you’re all set. It’s actually pretty simple and straightforward.

– Does a wig look natural?

If you have never worn a wig, you might be worried about how natural they actually look. You may remember wigs from many years ago that didn’t really look realistic, but you can rest assured that they have come a long way. Modern ones, of good quality, are completely indistinguishable from your real locks.

If the fit is right, no one will ever suspect that it’s not your real hair. Quality wigs have a realistic hairline and are made from real hair so that it looks just like the real thing. Many celebrities are wearing wigs and you usually do not even notice it. That’s why you should have no fear of it looking fake or unnatural.

– How long does a wig last?

The longevity depends on the type of hairpiece and the hair on it. Most of the time, synthetic ones last for about one year, while human hair ones last for three years or more. Another thing that influences the lifespan is how good the wig is taken care of. If you follow all the maintenance instructions, you can add a few extra months of life.

It also depends on whether you wear it every single day and whether you have multiple ones that you change up. If you want a hairpiece that you can wear for a really long period of time, you should definitely go for quality and real human hair. However, if you need it only temporarily, for a couple of months, synthetic ones will also do the job.

How do I buy a wig online?

The first step of buying a wig is knowing your preferences, needs, and what kind of result you are expecting. Here are a couple of questions that you can ask yourself to determine that. What is the reason I’m buying a wig? How long am I planning to wear it? What kind of look and style am I going for? Keep those answers in mind when choosing a wig later on. I

f you are suffering from hair loss or are about to go through chemotherapy, it is crucial to plan in advance. It is a great idea to purchase before you lose all of your hair because that will certainly be a lot less traumatic. You can also cut a small strand of your hair so you can match it better later. The size of your head needs to be determined, then you should think about wig and cap types, choosing the right color and style.

– How do I know my wig size?

The first step is measuring your head. You will need a tape measure to do that. Place one end on your forehead and go all around the head, following your hairline. Write the measurement down. Place the one end on your forehead again, but this time go to the back of your head, at the nape of your neck. Write it down as well. These are the main two measurements that you’ll need in order to determine the right size. Wigs come usually come in small, medium, and large sizes.

Most women have an average-sized head so the medium will fit them great, however, some might require smaller or larger sizes. Each shop will have its sizes along with the approximate measurements for each one.

You simply need to take a look at and compare it to your measurements. Usually, the ultra-small cap fits heads that are under 20 inches, small is for 21-inch heads, medium or average size is about 21.5 – 22.5 inches, and a large-cap fits heads larger than 22.5 inches.

Keep in mind that you should not rush through this process because your new hair needs to fit you exactly right and many stores do not offer refunds.

– Choosing a wig cap

A traditional wig cap is made out of fabric and has hair sewn onto it by a machine. The bundles of hair a slightly teased on the roots in order to hide the cap better. If you purchase a quality hairpiece with a traditional cap, it will look great and realistic. There are also monofilament cap types are made out of a lace mesh material and hairs are sewn by hand. This type of caps i usually on full lace wig types.

These, of course, are more comfortable to wear and look even more natural. However, there are caps that are a mixture of the two. For example, a 360 wig has a cap with lace going all around the head, a frontal one has the mesh material only at the front.

– How do I select a wig color?

Wigs come in hundreds of different colors so there are many shades to choose from. You first need to decide whether you want to imitate your natural hair color or go for a completely new style. If you want an exact match of your real strands, you need to be very careful with color selection.

Although pictures of color swatches you see in online stores offer a fair representation of the shades, sometimes the color can look slightly different in real life. For that reason, it is recommended that you first order a color swatch from the store you’re buying from and see how the shades actually look. Now you can compare them to your natural strands and make the best match.

– Choosing a texture

Another way to customize your hairpiece and make it fit you perfectly is by choosing a nice texture. Wigs come in so many different textures including straight, wavy, body wave, deep curl, kinky curly, and many others. Some are even pre-styled so you get a wig that’s literally ready to wear.

Here you have the option to choose a texture that’s most similar to your real strands, but if you’re looking to change your style using a wig, go for something new and different. Some women also prefer two have two or more wigs in each texture so that they can change it up whenever they want to.

– What does the density of a wig mean?

Density means how much hair there is on a cap. It determines the thickness and overall volume of the hair. If the density is very low, you will get thin and fine hair and if it’s higher, you will get more thickness. You need to determine what kind of look you’re going for in order to select the right density percentage.

90% is the lowest density that you can get and it is not really recommended, just like 100 – 110% density. 130% density is a great option because it is very similar to real hair. 150% density will give you a bit of extra volume, but nothing too over the top. 180% and 200% density means big volume and thickness, great for special occasions.

– What is 130% wig density?

This is the default wig density you can buy at Malaysia Hair Imports. We do not have wigs that have a density of less than 130% because we believe those are not up to our standards because of very thin hair.

130% is considered to be the density of regular human hair which means you will get a very natural look if you go with this percentage. It is perfect for anyone who wants their hairpiece to look completely real and just like natural strands. You won’t get wild, over the top volume, but most customers are usually not looking for that, especially if you suffer from hair loss.

Densities between 130% and 200% are more suitable for girls who have naturally very thick hair or want a glamorous look with lots of volumes. As with other options, you first need to determine what are your needs and then choose and shop accordingly.

– What is high-density hair?

High-density hair means it is over 130% dense. If you’re looking for a lot of volumes and really thick strands, you should definitely go above the default density. High-density hair is recommended for girls who have naturally very thick hair or simply want to have a very fancy and extravagant look.

The highest density hair that you can get is about 200%. That is almost double the regular, default density which means you get A LOT of hair. If you want to look like a real diva with amazingly voluminous locks, then try a higher density hair, you will definitely notice the difference. Should I buy more than one hairpiece?

To begin, start with one wig and see how it fits you and whether you would like to continue to wear it for longer. But if your budget allows you, it is a good idea to have at least two wigs.

There are a couple of reasons for that. First of all, your hair will last you a lot longer if you don’t wear it every single day. So having two wigs that you can change every once in a while is definitely useful if you want to get as much out of them. Another reason why having two is better is washing and drying. While you’re cleaning one, you can wear the other.

A cool thing that you can do with two wigs that’s a real time saver is having one curly and the other straight. That way you can change up your style as often as you want, without having to constantly curl and straighten your hair. But if you’re on a tight budget, one will do the trick as well.

– Why did I find cheaper wigs elsewhere?

Some of the wigs you find elsewhere might be cheaper, but there is a good reason for that. If the price is lower than average, the hair will certainly not be high quality, the cap won’t be as sturdy and comfortable, the density will be very low, and it will definitely not look good or last as long.

The saying “You get what you pay for” really rings true when it comes to wigs. You cannot expect to buy a high-quality wig for a very cheap price. So the reason why you might find that AiryHair wigs are not as cheap as other ones you find is the quality. We do not sell low-quality products because they simply do not meet our standards.

For example, our default hair density is 130% and we do not sell anything that’s lower. Cheap hair has a very short lifespan which means you would have to buy a new one very quickly. When you do the math, it’s actually more affordable to buy one, more expensive, high-quality hairpiece that will last you for a very long time, than several cheap ones.

– Will insurance pay for my human wig?

Most insurance companies will pay for your wig, at least partially. However, the right term you need to use when speaking to your insurance is a cranial prosthesis. First, ask your doctor to write you a prescription for it, including the ICD-9 code. Then you need to contact your insurance and ask them about their policy regarding cranial prosthesis.

Although stores will not accept any payments directly from your insurance, they can provide you with a receipt that you can use to get reimbursed by your insurance company. If they require any additional information, most stores will provide that, including AiryHair. Can my hair be used to make a wig for my loved one?

If someone you know is battling an illness and is in a need of a hairpiece, maybe you have considered donating your own hair. While that is very generous, it is not as easy to do so. First of all, hair from one donor is not enough to make a full wig so your strands would be mixed with ones from other donors as well. Custom made wigs are also very expensive and take a lot of time to make.

If your loved one is suffering from a disease that’s making them lose hair rapidly, they don’t have that much time to waste and probably want their hairpiece as soon as possible. Also, human hair is not really recommended for cancer patients and other people will serious illness because it’s hard for them to maintain it properly while being treated. Synthetic hair is a much better option because it can still look great, but doesn’t require much maintenance.

– What are your wig shopping tips?

Regardless of which store you decide to buy from, even if it’s not AiryHair, you need to make sure that you’re dealing with a company that you can trust. Check that the store has a long history with selling hair and has a good range of quality products. Make sure that there are an address and a phone number through which you can contact the company. Beware of very low prices because there is often a very good reason why a store offers such cheap products.

They are usually not made very well, using low-quality hair and will not last very long. Some stores even try to sell you hair that has already been used or has some kind of defect. Also beware of false branded wigs. Some online stores try to sell very cheap and badly made wigs under famous brands so they charge a lot of money on it. We at AiryHair offer only quality products that withstand the test of time.

The prices of our products are affordable and similar to those of other established stores. You simply need to follow your common sense and make sure to do some research before you buy anything.

– Where can I get a free wig?

In cases where your budget simply does not allow you to afford a hairpiece, there are some free options. If you live in the United States, you can try contacting the American Cancer Society or try to look for a similar organization in your country. They will provide you with a free wig if you are a cancer patient. But do keep in mind that those are very cheap and low quality since they’re free. These wigs, unfortunately, won’t be very comfortable and look as good. What you can do to make it look better is going to a hair professional to style it.

– How do I care for my wig?

Regardless of what type of hairpiece you have, brushing it regularly is essential. Keep it tangle free and it will look amazing all the time. However, be careful while combing and don’t go near the roots and the cap because you might damage it. You need to wash it regularly, but not too often.

Once a week is fine if you wear it every day. The easiest way to wash it is to remove it first and place it in a sink. Add cold water and wig shampoo (you don’t want to use hot water for washing).

Avoid scrubbing too hard; just gently massage the hair as well as the cap area. When you’re done, rinse thoroughly with cold water. Now is the time to apply some conditioner and remember to avoid the cap area. Brush gently with your fingers and rinse out when you’re done. The best way to dry your wig is to place it on a stand and let it dry overnight. Avoid blow dryers as much as you can and don’t brush until it’s completely dry.

– Can I use regular hair products on my wig?

We recommend that you only use products that are made specifically for wigs. That way you can avoid any potential damage to your hairpiece and product buildup. There are great wig shampoos, conditioners, and other products available online and you will certainly find the one you like. It is also recommended that you use special brushes and combs for detangling since a wig is more fragile than your natural hair.

– Can my wig be dyed or colored?

If it’s a synthetic one, then definitely not. However, if it’s made from real human hair, in most cases you can dye it. You need to check with the store if the wig has been processed and dyed before and that will also help you in deciding whether to color it or not. Dying is a process that you should definitely not be doing yourself, no matter how experienced with coloring you are.

Go to a professional and have them inspect the wig first and then color it if it’s deemed safe. In any case, never go for a lighter color, choose a darker one. Because wig dying is quite complicated, it is best to choose the correct color in the first place and if you want to change your style later, purchase another hairpiece in a different color.

– Are hot tools safe to use on a wig?

Hot tools should not be used on synthetic hair and should also be avoided with human hair as well. The head might damage the strands and shorten the lifespan of the wig if used frequently. The best option is to buy a pre-styled hairpiece and have two with different styles. That way you don’t have to fear any damage and you also save a lot of time.

– Can I shower or swim in my wig?

It is not recommended that you swim or shower while wearing your wig. Chemical in the pool water can damage the delicate hairs, as well as saltwater. The strands will also get tangled and matted which is a pain to brush through afterward. When going swimming, use a cap to protect your hair and washing of the wig is best done while it’s not attached.

– Can I sleep in my wig?

Depending on how you attach your wig, it might be the best that you take it off before you go to bed and place it on a holder. However, that means you have to attach the wig every morning which can take up a lot of time. Sleeping with a wig on is allowed only if you take proper measures to protect it.

You either need to tie a scarf around your head or get your hair into a braid or a bun. If the hair is loose, it will be a nightmare in the morning to detangle but not only that, some of the hairs may fall out or break.

– Can I cut the hair on my wig?

Some hairpieces are already cut in different styles that you can choose from, but you might also want to customize it even more. The best way is to go to a hair professional that has experience in working with wigs. He or she will cut the wig to your preference so that it looks very natural and complements your face.

The ends can also be made thinner to get that realistic look. What we do not recommend is doing a drastic style change; it is best to buy a hairpiece with a general style that you like and then simply tweaking it slightly. Avoid doing this yourself because cutting a wig is very different from cutting your own hair. You might make a mistake and ruin your wig completely.

– What are cushion bands and wig grippers?

A cushion band is a type of headband that’s filled with a special gel. It is worn in order to make wig-wearing more comfortable. It is especially useful for people who have partial or complete hair loss. When someone is losing their hair, their scalp is very sensitive and sometimes even painful so a cushioned band is used to prevent any discomfort from wearing a hairpiece.

A wig gripper is a similar thing but its main use is making the wig stay in place. It is made from velour or similar fabric and it essentially grips the wig and keeps it from moving or falling off. Both are great wig accessories that you might want to consider because they will certainly make your life easier.

– Do wigs come pre-styled?

Some wigs do indeed come pre-styled. That’s a great thing because the wig is instantly ready to wear and you don’t have to worry about styling it yourself. However, some women choose to customize their hairpiece and make it their own. Both options work great, it all depends on your preferences.

– Do I need a wig liner?

If the wig doesn’t seem as comfortable or if your scalp is sensitive due to hair loss, you might need some type of wig liner. Many women prefer wearing a cap underneath the hairpiece in order to protect their hair and simply get it out of the way. The most basic cap that you can find is made out of a soft mesh material which is very comfortable. The mesh is also very thin so you will barely feel it on your head.

However, if your scalp is very sensitive, we recommend a cap made out of cotton. It is slightly thicker and will protect your scalp and make the wig more comfortable to wear. Wig liners are very easy to clean and they can actually protect your wig as well. There are also wig grippers which are not whole caps but headbands that make the headpiece more comfortable.

– Can I wear a wig if my head sweats a lot?

Of course, you can! That’s certainly not a problem whatsoever. The only thing you need to make sure is to wash your wig regularly because the sweat will be absorbed by the wig cap. Another thing you can do is to wear a wig liner because it will protect your hairpiece from getting sweaty and protect your scalp against irritation.

– How should I store my wig?

Proper storage is another important part of caring for your wig and protecting it against damage. We recommend that you purchase a wig stand along with the hairpiece because you’re certainly going to need it for storage. It is the best and easiest way to store your hair when you’re not wearing it and have it be ready to go. A stand is perfect for drying your wig as well. The only tip is to avoid Styrofoam stands because they can mess with the fit of the wig. The hair needs to be in a dry and cool place, away from sunlight.

Hair Extensions with Cambodian Hair Quality Hair – Perfect Hair Everyday!

Cambodian Hair is a common raw material for a high-quality hair extension. However, the processing of this hair is less time-consuming than that of Indian hair.

Since Asian hair is more similar to the European hair structure, the hair does not need to be thinned. The attached hair extensions will look natural even without this step.

Cambodian human hair can be bleached and subsequently dyed in different shades of color.

Hair Extensions with Malaysian  Human

Malaysian Hair is a valuable raw material for a high-quality hair extension. The processing of this hair is less time-consuming than that of Indian and Chinese hair.

Since Asian hair is more similar to the European hair structure meaning the hair does not need to be thinned.

Hair Extensions with Burmese Human Hair

Burmese is similar to Indian hair in its characteristics. This hair also does not have to be thinned out before making the hair extensions.

However, since Americas  and Europeans have the same lineage, Burmese hair is even more similar to European hair than Indian hair is.

Micro link/Micro bead/Micro-ring/Loop Hair Extensions

This type of human hair extensions is applied by looping the single-strand micro-bead extensions through your own hair and clamping down with a pair of pliers and a metal bead to finish. So pretty much, your entire head is covered in these little beads. You need to go to a professional for the application of micro-bead hair extensions.

Sewn-in/Weave Hair Extensions

Sewn-in weave hair extensions are those who have super thick, coarse, or naturally super curly hair. Your own hair is braided tightly into corn rows throughout your entire head, and the extensions are then attached using a needle and a thread.

A pro about these hair extensions is that they work super well for girls who have tons of hair that is thick and a coarse, however, a con is that the tight braids seriously strain your scalp, therefore they are not advisable for those who have thin hair.

Also consider hygienic reasons – it may be difficult to wash and condition  the scalp because the entire scalp is covered in cornrows. You need to go to a professional for the application of sewn-in hair extensions as well as consistently visit the salon (even six weeks or so) to ensure that the extensions are still sewn in correctly into place and if the braids need to be tightened up again.

Clip-in Hair Extensions

Clip-in hair extensions are the fastest, easiest, and least damaging type of hair extensions that you can apply all by yourself without having to go to a professional. Clip-in hair extensions are a temporary method of hair extensions, which means you can clip them in and out whenever you want.

Clip-in hair extensions are ideal if you are looking to add length and volume to your hair without the commitment or breaking the bank. Clip-in hair extensions are a popular choice among women all over the world for bridal and bridesmaids’ hairstyles as they can greatly enhance any hairstyle.

You need to take off your clip-in hair extensions when you shower, sleep, or swim, however, clipping them in takes only about 5 minutes. Always choose real remy human hair extensions as you will be able to heat style and wash them just like your own hair.

High quality clip-in hair extensions will last you anywhere from 3-6 months up to a year or even longer, depending on how often you wear them and how well you take care of them. Malaysia Hair Imports raw human hair extensions are all high quality 100% real remy human clip-in hair extensions.

Tape in Hair Extensions

Tape in method of hair extensions involves taking each weft and literally taping them onto your own hair. The wefts are connected by wide bonds of tape and your own hair is placed between them and clamped around the strands.

Pros to this method of hair extensions is if you wear your hair extensions without a break, these can last in your hair for 6-12 weeks. Some cons to tape in hair extensions are that it can be difficult to tie your hair up how you want it since you can’t reposition the wefts after they are applied, and they can also begin tangling with your own hair as it starts growing out. You need to go to a professional for the application of tape in hair extensions.

Glue-in/Keratin Bond/Pre-bonded Hair Extensions

These hair extensions are attached to the hair with keratin bonds that are on top of the extensions, which are fused with a hot tool. This technique requires heat for application, and consistent visits to the salon to maintain them.

They can look great; however, it is best to not using oils, conditioners or any hot styling tools because this can weaken the bonds and make the extensions come out.

Raw Virgin Hair is human hair that is in its natural state. No chemical changes, no color, has not been processed, and all cuticles are intact. All hair sold by Malaysia Hair Imports is Raw virgin hair.

Your Cambodian, Malaysian, Burmese hair extensions and wigs should be measured to the fall of the hair. Start 0 at the weft or top of wig cap and measure to the ends of the bundle. The Cambodian and Burmese Wavy, Cambodian Body Wave, Burmese Curly, and Kinky Curly hair extensions and wigs must be measured by pulling the hair straight. Again, start 0 at the weft; pull the hair straight from the ends, and the length will be at the tips of the hair.

Each bundle will not measure exact when it is still wrapped in its band, as tension can affect the fall of each strand.

Your new hair from Malaysia Hair Imports 100% Human Raw Virgin hair extensions can be styled like your own hair. You are able to use a thermal (hot) tool to straighten, curl, crimp, etc. Keep in mind the hair does not have all the nutrients that a strand growing from your scalp will.

Heat damage can cause breakage and dryness. Therefore, it is imperative that you use a heat-protecting product, always co-wash your hair, and protect it during sleep hours.

Any chemical processes should be done by a professional or at least consulted by one. This purchase is an investment for you and chemically altering the hair can possibly damage it. Although our Raw Virgin hair extensions can handle a coloring process very well, please be cautious.

Once the hair is chemically-altered incorrectly, the cuticle can become damaged and overexposed, causing fraying, breakage, dryness, and tangling. This in turn will affect the overall look and feel of your hair. Chemical damage has no reverse button, and we will not be held liable for any damages.

Minimally, no hair is absolutely perfect. We have reinforced machine wefting, to minimize shedding to nearly none. You may see a few strands here or there while detangling or styling, but nothing troubling or excessive. The most effective way to avoid shedding is by sealing the wefts.

Our 100% Human Hair Extensions and Wigs can last through multiple installs. However, the lifetime of your extensions depends heavily on how they are cared for. On average our customers can use their extensions from 6 to 8 months if cared for properly. Learn more about Caring for your Raw Virgin Cambodian, Malaysian and Burmese Hair Extensions

Co-washing simply means washing with conditioner. It is a key task in extending the life of your extensions and keeping them healthy. We recommend a co-wash once a week with moisturizing conditioner to ensure your hair gets the nutrients and moisture it needs.

When you first receive your extensions, it is important to co-wash the hair, as it has been through Malaysia Hair Imports is a direct factory manufacturers’  that hands, packaging, etc.

Shampooing the hair can strip the hair entirely too much of its moisture. Always use WARM water, as hot water will overexpose the cuticle of the hair.

All virgin hair reacts differently to product and regimens. Please be mindful to stay away from ingredients that can strip your extensions of moisture such as parabens, sulfate, and silicone. These products usually tend to have a high alcohol content which dehydrates the hair follicle of its nutrients.

Heavy oils are also not necessary to care for your extensions as it can weigh down your hair pattern. By rule of thumb, we recommend co-washing your bundles weekly and shampooing bi-weekly to rid your bundles of any excess product. Deep conditioning can be done as needed.

With no two heads being alike, our customers have a variety of experience with different textures as well as their daily maintenance of their extensions. Over the years we have collected knowledge regarding what works best.

Our customers highly suggest product lines such as Crème of Nature, Carol’s Daughter, Cantu, As I Am, and more. Even though our customers suggest these products, your extensions may not respond in the same manner.

The key to determining how many bundles to purchase depends on the lengths you are wanting. As all bundles are the same weight (3.3oz), the longer bundles have shorter wefts, and the shorter bundles have longer wefts. For a full sew-in, we recommend 3-4 bundles of hair. For lengths over 18”, we recommend ordering 4-5 bundles of hair.

If you desire an install with a lot of volume, you will need 4-5 bundles or 4 bundles with a closure. A closure is a great addition to your install, as you will have no leave-out. This is considered a full protective style, and none of your hair will be exposed.

We have a standard 24-48 hour processing time prior to the shipment of 5-7 business days all orders. This processing timeframe is subject to change due to sales or holidays. Please review our shipping methods to receive an estimated timeframe of received your package.
