Types of Wigs: Finding My First Wigs Perfect Fit

There are so many different kinds of wigs on the hair market that it can be difficult to decide which type is right for your client. In order to help you assist clients, we’ve can custom make different types of wigs. By the end of this guide, you’ll know exactly what to look for when you start helping your client shop.

What Kinds of My First Wigs are There?

There are so many types of wigs! First off, you will need to decide if they’d like a ready-made or custom wig. Ready-made wigs are stock hair systems. They’re generally medium cap, pre-styled,.

For a slightly more customizable option, these units can be adjusted to the wearer’s head for an increase in price. Because these units aren’t custom made for individual clients, they tend to look a little less realistic. However, they’re generally the most affordable option.

Our Custom wigs are made specifically for a client. They’re generally made from lighter materials and can be more comfortable to wear. Because these are tailor-made, more detail can be focused on the front of the hairline. This is important because the front of the hairline is considered to be the most important part of a hair system. This is because the hairline can be a dead giveaway of a wig or replacement system. If it blends well, no one notices that it’s anything other than the wearer’s own hair.

Our 100% Human Hair My First Wig Advantages
Strict quality control, Exquisite hand-tied skill, nonstop innovation, and improvements make our factory more competitive and our products have been widely recognized at the same time. We only choose 100% quality virgin human hair for all our products. Which can ensure the product quality from the very beginning of raw materials?

Types of My First Wigs

There are four main types of wigs: polyurethane (“poly”), mesh (lace and monofilament), combo, and open weft units. Depending on your client’s needs for hair replacement, they can also choose from full wigs, toppers (partial wigs), and hairpieces.

Polyurethane Wig Styles

Polyurethane (“poly”) wigs are generally thin and pigmented. This helps them match your client’s skin tone and blend in. This skin-like material makes using tapes and adhesives easier on the wig as a whole and helps extend the wig’s life.

The comfort of poly units isn’t quite at the level of what you’d be able to expect with a mesh unit. It tends to run hot since this base material isn’t as breathable. Some wearers have also reported that poly wig bases have a thicker feel and create a “floating” sensation over their scalp. This has a tendency to affect the look of the hairline and can make it appear less natural.

Mesh Lace Wig Units

Mesh units are a general category that is made up of full lace and monofilament styles. The full lace group is comprised of swiss lace, glass-silk, and 100% hand tied systems. Monofilament constructions include 100% hand-tied, single, and double units.

Monofilament material is a blend of very fine lace-like material, generally polyester or nylon mesh. Because of the unique construction of this wig type, it’s great for sensitive scalps as the top is breathable. It also takes on the color of the wearer’s scalp once it’s in place. This is because each hair on monofilament wigs are hand-tied to the mesh blend base.

This time-intensive process creates a very natural look and blends the hairs together seamlessly. This enables you and your client to part the hair wherever you’d like and still have the appearance that it’s growing out of their own hair follicles.

This category is, without a doubt, the most versatile option. They can be styled in an updo, tucked behind the ears, and parted in virtually any spot without the wig base being noticeable. The hairline of the wig is almost undetectable and, generally, the scalp can be seen through the mesh. This gives a lot of versatility and provides a natural and authentic look.

Full lace units generally have urethane strips for adhesives to stick to. Our lace tapes [link to lace front support tape] are the perfect choice to use with mesh systems. These units are very delicate, solace tape is gentle enough to use with these hair systems so they aren’t damaged.

Combinations Lace Wigs

Some monofilament wig styles can be a combination style that can have a machine-made back and sides, with a hand-tied top. This is more affordable, while still giving your clients almost all of the benefits of a hand-tied mesh unit. The combos mentioned in this section are the most popular constructions, but we’ll talk in more detail about bases below once you read further.

The construction of lace front wigs is really as simple as it sounds. These styles have a lace portion only in the front of the unit. The sheer mesh base that the individual hairs are tied to is perfect for creating a natural-looking hairline. The lace sits right along the forehead where the hairline would naturally be. The rest of the unit utilizes a thicker cap as a base. These may also have clips sewn in that help to secure it to other existing hair or wig caps that might be used.

Welded lace is fibers that have been tightly interwoven, forming a “welded” fabric. This allows you to part the unit anywhere your client wants. Welded lace is also the most durable type of lace. Trimming the lace fronts on these types of units can cause them to separate, so if you choose to do so for a client, proceed with caution and use only the correct tools recommended by the manufacturer of the wig.

French drawn units are really interesting. They’re constructed using three layers of material. Two layers of silk are used, along with one layer of swiss lace. The swiss lace is sandwiched between the layers of silk and is the material that the hair is tied to.

The silk above and below the knot allows for a smooth and comfortable wear experience. French drawn units create a very realistic and natural scalp appearance because of the layered construction that keeps the knots hidden.

Types Wig of Knots

There are so many different types of knots used in wig construction. We’re planning on posting another, more in-depth, a blog post with all of the information we know about wig knots. For now, though, we’re going to leave you with a brief list and a short description for each type of knot.

  • Single Knot – A knot that’s only been tied once where both hairs are looped back through the knot.

  • Single Split Knot – A knot that has been tied once. It has a lower profile than the single knot because only one hair (rather than two like in the single knot) is looped back through the knot.

  • Double Knot – This is the strongest type of knot because it’s been tied twice.

  • Double Split Knot – This type of knot has the look of a single knot, with the strength of a double knot.

  • V-Loop Knot – This is not so much a knot, as it is a weave.  The hair is sewn in a “V” or “U” shape through the base material and the other side for added security.

  • Direct Inject Knot – The hair is directly injected into the wig’s base material and then trimmed and sealed on the other side for added security. The hair doesn’t return back through, so it results in less tangling.

Wig Base Materials

As with types of knots, there are tons of different options for base materials. We’re also planning a more in-depth post for these, but we’ll give you an overview of each type for now.

  • Welded Lace/Mono – This is the most durable type of lace. It allows you to part the unit anywhere while maintaining a natural hairline.

  • Swiss Lace – Softer than welded lace and also more delicate. Part the unit anywhere your client wants while maintaining a natural hairline.

  • Single Monofilament – Part the hair anywhere with a natural-looking “growth” at part.

  • Double Monofilament – The same base as single monofilament, with a layer of glass silk underneath to mimic the appearance of a scalp.

  • Glass Silk – Very soft and fine material that creates a realistic scalp color and effect

  • French Drawn – This is a special construction that gives the most natural look. It creates the appearance of growth at the scalp and allows for parting anywhere.

  • 100% Hand Tied Stretch – This type of base mimics natural hair density and movement.

  • Polyurethane – Usually clear or flesh-toned, this base can be bonded. Polyurethane also generally coats the edges of monofilament toppers for extra durability.

  • Silicone/Anti-Slip/Suction – This base can grip against bare skin. It’s best for use with clients who have no biological hair.

Determining the Best Option for My First Wig

When you’re shopping, you’ll need to know if they’re aiming for a curly, wavy, or straight look. You’ll also need to know their preferences for base material and hair type.

Hair texture is an important aspect to consider when your client is hunting for the right hair system. If they’re leaning towards wearing a partial wig, matching the wig with your client’s hair is crucial so that it’ll blend smoothly. You may also need to consider the density of units your client is looking at, especially if they’re aiming for a more natural look.

My First Wig:

Can be difficult to know what you want and where to buy at Malaysia Hair Imports we try to answer all your questions you may have.

 Machine Made My First Wig:

For individuals who are new to wigs, or possibly allergic to or simply not fond of wig glues and or tapes. These non-lace machines made wigs require no tapes or glues to wear. Unlike the comparable glue-less full lace wigs, machine-made wigs as indicated are made by sewing wefts a few centimeters apart from each other on the new and improved elasticated wig cap, which also has combs and an adjustable strap at the nape for a secure fit.

Full Lace My First Wig:

Is constructed from a lace cap that covers the whole head and the hair is knotted in to the lace by hand. On standard Remy lace wigs, there is a strip of stretch lace over the top of the crown to allow for movement such as hair growth underneath and for variations in head size.

My First Wig Lace Front Wig:

have a lace panel in the front of the wig, attached to a cap made a different way (basic, monofilament, or hand-tied). Typically, lace front wigs have a lace panel that sticks out beyond the hairline of the wig. The panel needs to be cut (preferably by a stylist or cosmetologist who knows how to do it) This is what helps create the look of a natural hairline.

My First Wig Cap Size Do I Need:

The way your wig fits your head is very important. A good comfortable fit is necessary if you would like to wear your wig for an extended amount of time. To measure your head for a wig, use a cloth tape measure that has not been stretched for accuracy.

Forehead to Nape

Start the tape from the center of the front of your hairline to the hairline at the nape of the neck. If you have little or no hair, lay your index, third, and ring finger flat against your forehead just about at the brow bone. At the top of the three fingers would be a good straight point. Measure until about an inch below the small bone at the bottom of the skull.

 Ear to Ear

Lay the end of the tape about a half-inch above your little crease (where glasses rest) at the top of your ear between the ear and the head. Bring the tape across the top of your head to meet the other ear, without touching the ear, at the same point.

Circumference

Start the tape at your hairline at the center of your forehead. Run the tape around, behind the ears, passing your hairline at the nape of the neck, and back up to the middle of your forehead.

Temple to Temple

Start at your temple, and bring the tape measure around the back of your head to reach the other temple.

My First Wig Hair Texture

Once you know your desired length, you have a few choices for your desired texture:
Straight:  Malaysian Hair
Natural Wavy:   Cambodian Hair,
Curly: Burmese Hair

My First Wig Length of Hair

Short wigs are admittedly better for more humid areas or if you feel that your body is always hot.

The longer the wig (just like the longer your hair) the more heat will be trapped and the warmer you might feel throughout the day. Also, short wigs are a bit easier to maintain, dry faster, are quicker to style and can cost less. But the choice is yours, don’t let money get in the way of achieving the look you want because we can custom make your order.

My First Wig Hairstyle

Once you have decided on your size, hair type, and cap type, now you can have fun. Browse through our short, chin-length, medium length, and long hairstyles to find your favorite online wigs or contact us and make a custom order.

For women who have very long hairstyles before their hair loss, it is often best to go a bit shorter. A shorter wig will be easier to manage, and less of a transition once your hair begins to grow back.

It is important to choose a style before you choose a color because each unit will only come in a selection of colors from the full-color range. Many women worry that if they don’t start with color, they won’t find the right color. Do not worry as they be custom colored. If you would like to match your style to your existing hair, detailed length measurements please contact and send us a picture to custom make.

My First Wig Hair Color:

Our custom color comes in a selection of approximately 30 colors. For this reason, it is impossible to choose your wig color until you have selected your style. Most individuals find that it is best to match their natural hair color. If you are experiencing hair loss, We always recommend that our customers take advantage of our free expert consultations. Many of our customers choose to send us hair swatches and pictures, allowing our experts to help them select an ideal color match.

Hair Extensions with Cambodian Hair Quality Hair – Perfect Hair Everyday!

Cambodian Hair is a common raw material for a high-quality hair extension. However, the processing of this hair is less time-consuming than that of Indian hair.

Since Asian hair is more similar to the European hair structure, the hair does not need to be thinned. The attached hair extensions will look natural even without this step.

Cambodian human hair can be bleached and subsequently dyed in different shades of color.

Hair Extensions with Malaysian  Human

Malaysian Hair is a valuable raw material for a high-quality hair extension. The processing of this hair is less time-consuming than that of Indian and Chinese hair.

Asian hair is more similar to the European hair structure meaning the hair does not need to be thinned.

Hair Extensions with Burmese Human Hair

Burmese is similar to Indian hair in its characteristics. This hair also does not have to be thinned out before making the hair extensions.

However, since the Americas  and Europeans have the same lineage, Burmese hair is even more similar to European hair than Indian hair is.

Micro link/Microbead/Micro-ring/Loop Hair Extensions

This type of human hair extensions is applied by looping the single-strand micro-bead extensions through your own hair and clamping down with a pair of pliers and a metal bead to finish. So pretty much, your entire head is covered in these little beads. You need to go to a professional for the application of micro-bead hair extensions.

Sewn-in/Weave Hair Extensions

Sewn-in weave hair extensions are those who have super thick, coarse, or naturally super curly hair. Your own hair is braided tightly into corn rows throughout your entire head, and the extensions are then attached using a needle and a thread.

A pro about these hair extensions is that they work super well for girls who have tons of hair that is thick and a coarse, however, a con is that the tight braids seriously strain your scalp, therefore they are not advisable for those who have thin hair.

Also consider hygienic reasons – it may be difficult to wash and condition the scalp because the entire scalp is covered in cornrows. You need to go to a professional for the application of sewn-in hair extensions as well as consistently visit the salon (even six weeks or so) to ensure that the extensions are still sewn in correctly into place and if the braids need to be tightened up again.

Clip-in Hair Extensions

Clip-in hair extensions are the fastest, easiest, and least damaging type of hair extensions that you can apply all by yourself without having to go to a professional. Clip-in hair extensions are a temporary method of hair extensions, which means you can clip them in and out whenever you want.

Clip-in hair extensions are ideal if you are looking to add length and volume to your hair without the commitment or breaking the bank. Clip-in hair extensions are a popular choice among women all over the world for bridal and bridesmaids’ hairstyles as they can greatly enhance any hairstyle.

You need to take off your clip-in hair extensions when you shower, sleep, or swim, however, clipping them in takes only about 5 minutes. Always choose real remy human hair extensions as you will be able to heat style and wash them just like your own hair.

High-quality clip-in hair extensions will last you anywhere from 3-6 months up to a year or even longer, depending on how often you wear them and how well you take care of them. Malaysia Hair Imports raw human hair extensions are all high quality 100% real remy human clip-in hair extensions.

Tape-in Hair Extensions

Tape in method of hair extensions involves taking each weft and literally taping them onto your own hair. The wefts are connected by wide bonds of tape and your own hair is placed between them and clamped around the strands.

Pros to this method of hair extensions is if you wear your hair extensions without a break, these can last in your hair for 6-12 weeks. Some cons to tape in hair extensions are that it can be difficult to tie your hair up how you want it since you can’t reposition the wefts after they are applied, and they can also begin tangling with your own hair as it starts growing out. You need to go to a professional for the application of tape in hair extensions.

Glue-in/Keratin Bond/Pre-bonded Hair Extensions

These hair extensions are attached to the hair with keratin bonds that are on top of the extensions, which are fused with a hot tool. This technique requires heat for application, and consistent visits to the salon to maintain them.

They can look great; however, it is best to not using oils, conditioners or any hot styling tools because this can weaken the bonds and make the extensions come out.

WHAT IS RAW VIRGIN HAIR?

Raw Virgin Hair is human hair that is in its natural state. No chemical changes, no color, has not been processed, and all cuticles are intact. All hair sold by Malaysia Hair Imports is Raw virgin hair.

HOW CAN I MEASURE THE LENGTH OF MY HAIR PRODUCTS?

Your Cambodian, Malaysian, Burmese hair extensions and wigs should be measured to the fall of the hair. Start 0 at the weft or top of wig cap and measure to the ends of the bundle. The Cambodian and Burmese Wavy, Cambodian Body Wave, Burmese Curly, and Kinky Curly hair extensions and wigs must be measured by pulling the hair straight. Again, start 0 at the weft; pull the hair straight from the ends, and the length will be at the tips of the hair.

Each bundle will not measure exact when it is still wrapped in its band, as tension can affect the fall of each strand.

CAN THE HAIR BE STRAIGHTENED OR CURLED?

Your new hair from Malaysia Hair Imports 100% Human Raw Virgin hair extensions can be styled like your own hair. You are able to use a thermal (hot) tool to straighten, curl, crimp, etc. Keep in mind the hair does not have all the nutrients that a strand growing from your scalp will.

Heat damage can cause breakage and dryness. Therefore, it is imperative that you use a heat-protecting product, always co-wash your hair, and protect it during sleep hours.

CAN I COLOR MY HAIR BUNDLES?

Any chemical processes should be done by a professional or at least consulted by one. This purchase is an investment for you and chemically altering the hair can possibly damage it. Although our Raw Virgin hair extensions can handle a coloring process very well, please be cautious.

Once the hair is chemically-altered incorrectly, the cuticle can become damaged and overexposed, causing fraying, breakage, dryness, and tangling. This in turn will affect the overall look and feel of your hair. Chemical damage has no reverse button, and we will not be held liable for any damages.

DOES OUR HAIR SHED?

Minimally, no hair is absolutely perfect. We have reinforced machine wefting, to minimize shedding to nearly none. You may see a few strands here or there while detangling or styling, but nothing troubling or excessive. The most effective way to avoid shedding is by sealing the wefts.

HOW LONG DOES THIS HAIR LAST?

Our 100% Human Hair Extensions and Wigs can last through multiple installs. However, the lifetime of your extensions depends heavily on how they are cared for. On average our customers can use their extensions from 6 to 8 months if cared for properly. Learn more about Caring for your Raw Virgin Cambodian, Malaysian and Burmese Hair Extensions

WHAT DOES CO-WASH HAIR MEAN?

Co-washing simply means washing with conditioner. It is a key task in extending the life of your extensions and keeping them healthy. We recommend a co-wash once a week with moisturizing conditioner to ensure your hair gets the nutrients and moisture it needs.

When you first receive your extensions, it is important to co-wash the hair, as it has been through Malaysia Hair Imports is a direct factory manufacturers’  that hands, packaging, etc.

Shampooing the hair can strip the hair entirely too much of its moisture. Always use WARM water, as hot water will overexpose the cuticle of the hair.

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY HAIR?

All virgin hair reacts differently to product and regimens. Please be mindful to stay away from ingredients that can strip your extensions of moisture such as parabens, sulfate, and silicone. These products usually tend to have a high alcohol content which dehydrates the hair follicle of its nutrients.

Heavy oils are also not necessary to care for your extensions as it can weigh down your hair pattern. By rule of thumb, we recommend co-washing your bundles weekly and shampooing bi-weekly to rid your bundles of any excess product. Deep conditioning can be done as needed.

WHAT HAIR PRODUCTS DO YOU RECOMMEND I USE?

With no two heads being alike, our customers have a variety of experience with different textures as well as their daily maintenance of their extensions. Over the years we have collected knowledge regarding what works best.

Our customers highly suggest product lines such as Crème of Nature, Carol’s Daughter, Cantu, As I Am, and more. Even though our customers suggest these products, your extensions may not respond in the same manner.

HOW MANY HAIR BUNDLES SHOULD I ORDER?

The key to determining how many bundles to purchase depends on the lengths you are wanting. As all bundles are the same weight (3.3oz), the longer bundles have shorter wefts, and the shorter bundles have longer wefts. For a full sew-in, we recommend 3-4 bundles of hair. For lengths over 18”, we recommend ordering 4-5 bundles of hair.

If you desire an install with a lot of volume, you will need 4-5 bundles or 4 bundles with a closure. A closure is a great addition to your install, as you will have no leave-out. This is considered a full protective style, and none of your hair will be exposed.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR ME TO RECEIVE MY PACKAGE?

We have a standard 24-48 hour processing time prior to the shipment of 5-7 business days all orders. This processing timeframe is subject to change due to sales or holidays. Please review our shipping methods to receive an estimated timeframe of received your package.

******NO SHIPMENT WILL TAKE PLACE ON WEEKENDS NOR HOLIDAYS******
